Essar Centre Gets Charley Pride
Okay, it’s official. Charley pride will play at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie on July 7th 2009. So far, this is the first show we know that is booked for the Essar Centre next summer.
Charley Pride has been touring North America for many years. He has an amazing number of singles, and over 60 million albums sold to date. He will be touring from St. John’s, Newfoundland all the way to Dawson Creek, British Columbia on the west coast of Canada.
Charley Pride was born in Sledge, Mississippi to poor sharecroppers. He loved music all of his life, although he was quite an accomplished pitcher in the 1950’s. He even signed to a farm team of the New York Yankees until he was injured. He played for several other teams hoping to make it to the big leagues, but eventually had to leave for a stint in the US Army.
In the 1960’s he started singing and was finally noticed by a record producer named Chet Atkins from RCA records. Soon after, the release of “Snakes Crawl at Night” Charlie released a single called “Before I Met You” and the rest is history.
Charley Pride appeals to a wide range of audiences and ages, and always sells out regardless of the town that he’s playing. The majority of his songs are country and western, and is rich voice has made him a favorite for many years.
